  • Video: Child of Light in words and pretty pictures

Ubisoft's charming fairytale RPG Child of Light is being made with the UbiArt Framework, used to create the last two Rayman games - and this 2D world is similarly stunning, if stylistically quite different. In place of Rayman's riotous cartoon antics, Child of Light is painted in delicate, dreamy watercolour, while in gameplay terms the development team has been quick to tip the hat to the classic Japanese RPGs of their youth.
Our video editor Ian recently got a chance to play the game, record tons of footage and chat to creative director Patrick Plourde. As gorgeous as it is, he found the game was slow to pull him in (although in fairness, these demo sessions are rarely the best way to experience an RPG). For lots more info - including how the game plays on Wii U and PS4/Vita Remote Play - check out his findings below. Or if you'd rather just soak it up, we've got 10 minutes of gameplay footage without commentary, too.
Child of Light is released on 30th April as a download for PlayStations 3 and 4, Xboxes 360 and One, Wii U and PC.
