Two months ago Spelunky savant Bananasaurus_Rex set the new world record in Mossmouth's action roguelike after beginning a game where he received the level-destroying Plasma Cannon right off the bat. Most would have choked and squandered this good fortune, but Bananasaurus_Rex kept his cool in a run that lasted nearly seven and a half hours and resulted in an astonishing final score of $3,105,850. This not only set the world record, but utterly dominated the previous record of $2,980,000. Given Bananasaurus_Rex's diligent destruction of every brick in his path to amass this $3 million-plus fortune, it was believed that this would forever remain the top score in Spelunky.
But life is full of surprises.
Enter Twitch user YamaYamaDingDong. A mere 18 year old mortal, Mr. DingDong has crested Bananasaurus_Rex's legendary score by $4,000 with an astronomical $3,109,850. Good god!
