Nintendo announces Amiibo figurines

Nintendo's NFC toy range will be called Amiibo and will launch at the end of this year with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
The toys will also be supported in Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad and others.
In the days of yore Nintendo teased the Wii U Gamepad's near-field communication support. Place a special figurine next to it and it will import data to your game. Now, it's finally making good on this tech with introduction of the Nintendo-branded Skylanders-esque figurines.
