  • Watch This New Final Fantasy XV Combat Gameplay Footage

The Final Fantasy XV trailer that came out of TGS 2014 this week showed a lot of promise, but it was, of course, edited to highlight only the best parts of the game.
Today, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata showed off live gameplay during a NicoNico stream to prove that what we saw in the trailer wasn't pre-rendered footage, and that the the game actually plays like the trailer looks.
The video, which isn't of the highest quality due to the live broadcast it was captured from, starts with a few minutes of the characters standing around in the rain, but eventually goes into a combat encounter we get to see all the way through.
As we pointed out in our breakdown of the trailer from earlier in the week, it looks a lot like Final Fantasy XII's real-time combat, only with a very impressive engine, and Tabata said that the upcoming demo will look even better by the time it's released.
Yesterday, Square Enix announced that the Final Fantasy XV code included with Final Fantasy Type-0 will not likely give you immediate access to the much anticipated game's demo. Much like the Doom beta that came packaged with copies of Wolfenstien: The New Order, the code will likely give you access to a demo of the game at some future date.
According to Kotaku, Tabata said that the demo will be about an hour long if you don't spend time exploring, and up to three if you do. You'll be able to drive the car we saw in the trailer yourself or let another party member drive it for you. Tabata said that if Square Enix has time, it will add the series' iconic chocobo to the demo as well.
