  • New Star Wars: Battlefront Details Revealed

This year's highly anticipated shooter Star Wars: Battlefront from Battlefield developer DICE will allow players to live out their "most memorable Star Wars battle fantasies." That's according to design director Niklas Fegraeus, who spoke more about the upcoming game in a new interview.
"The scale of our maps and modes offer a great variety” depending on the location, Fegraeus explained in an interview with IGN. For example, playable locations on the icy planet Hoth will vary in size compared to the sense woodland setting of Endor.
"We have actually made the decision to specifically tailor certain maps to certain game modes," Fegraeus said. "And what we get from that is not only incredibly varied scales, but also gameplay that will allow players to live out some of their most memorable Star Wars battle fantasies."
Though he's excited about reviving the long-dormant Battlefront series with this year's game, Fegraeus acknowledged that there are some serious challenges, too.

"Perhaps the hardest part about bringing the franchise back is managing expectations," he said. "Star Wars fans, including ourselves, are incredibly passionate about the universe. Each of us have our own personal favorites. However, with the talent we have here at DICE, the Frostbite technology at our fingertips, and the fantastic working relationship we have with Lucas, I believe we will deliver a Star Wars experience that excites fans around the world and gives them the chance to play out battles in some of the most iconic locales in the series history."
Fegraeus also reveals that DICE is using an internally developed "photogrammetry system" to bring a new level of detail to Battlefront, though further specifics were not provided.
Earlier this week, Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen outlined his ambitions for Battlefront, saying EA will give the game a Battlefield-sized marketing push. The game is due to launch before Christmas 2015, sometime around the release of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
Battlefront is not the only new Star Wars game EA is currently working on. The developer's Visceral Games studio is also producing an entry in the series, rumored to be an open-world game. EA has even hired longtime Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig to work on the title.
EA and Star Wars franchise owner Disney signed a ten-year, multi-title deal in 2013 that makes the Mass Effect publisher the exclusive creator of new Star Wars games.
