  • Watch New Walkthrough For Impressive Resident Evil 2 Fan Remake

While we wait for an official Resident Evil 2 remake, something Capcom is indeed considering, we can at least enjoy this impressive fan-made version. Developer Rod Lima has completed his long-in-development project, and has now published a walkthrough video showing off his Unreal Engine 3 game.
Don't expect to be able to play Lima's remake, however, as he built the game as an Unreal Engine education exercise only. At one point in its development, Lima experimented with recreating the iconic opening of Resident Evil 2 in a over-the-shoulder style similar to Resident Evil 4, before later reverting to the game's original fixed camera.
Lima borrowed character modes and animations from previous Resident Evil games for his creation, and made it clear that those assets belong to Capcom.
"I own nothing here except the UnrealScript that I wrote. Everything else belongs to their respective owners," Lima wrote.
Resident Evil 2 was released in 1998 for the original PlayStation and has since been ported to a number of other platforms, but never remade. Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi told GameSpot in September 2012 that the company would consider remaking Resident Evil 2 if there was enough fan support behind the project.
"If the fans really clamor for it; if there's a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that's something Capcom would take under consideration," he said at the time.
Just last month, Capcom released a remake of the original Resident Evil for consoles and PC. You can read our review here.
