Apple Reveals $10,000 Watch
During today's Apple media event in San Francisco, the technology giant announced new details for its Apple Watch line of wearables, which was originally announced in September.
First, the company revealed that the Apple Watch product line will officially launch on April 24. The base level watch costs $350, but you can pay a lot more for a better model if you're so inclined.The "Apple Watch Edition" will start at $10,000. It's built with 18-karat gold (twice as hard as standard gold, Apple says), while there will also be a variety of color and band options to choose from. The premium watch's display is protected by sapphire crystal.
In addition, the price does not include the cost of an iPhone, which is required to use the watch. When you factor that in, you're looking at potentially hundreds more. Below is a breakdown of the Apple Watch devices that will be available on April 24 in-store and online.
- Apple Watch -- Starts at $550 and scales to $1,050, depending on the band you choose.
- Apple Watch Sport -- Starts at $350 for 38mm or $400 for 42mm.
- Apple Watch Edition -- Starts at $10,000.
Preorders for the Apple Watch Edition open on April 10, while the device itself will be available alongside all the other models later in the month across the world. Apple also announced today that the Apple Watch has been designed for "all-day battery life," or about 18 hours.
