Windows 10 Hits 75 Million Installs
The Windows 10 operating system has been installed on more than 75 million devices, Microsoft announced on its blog today. The milestone was shared via Twitter by Microsoft corporate vice president of marketing for Windows and Devices, Yusuf Mehdi.
Mehdi also shared some figures accompanying the announcement. Over "122 years of gameplay" have been streamed from Xbox One consoles to Windows 10 devices, and over ten million achievements have been unlocked. Windows 10 is also seeing more app usage, with six times more app downloads on the Windows Store versus that of Windows 8.
In addition to streaming games from an Xbox One, the the Windows 10 Xbox app includes features which allow users to take screenshots, has cross-platform play enabled for select games, and has GameDVR.
Windows 10 was launched at the end of July as a follow-up to Window 8 (there was no Windows 9). As part of a special offer, Windows 7 and 8 users can upgrade to Windows 10 for free for the first year after launch. Microsoft published a set of instructions for how PC users can start playing the "whole new" version of Minecraft for Windows 10.
The operating system came under fire when it was revealed that it was capable of finding and disabling counterfeit software, including pirated video games. Microsoft declined to provide further clarification when contacted for comment.
