  • Why Uncharted 4 Is Getting Single-Player DLC for First Time in Series History

Earlier this week, Naughty Dog announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is getting a single-player expansion, marking the first time in franchise history that will happen. Although Naughty Dog is saving specific details about it for later, the developer has now explained why it's making it in the first place.
Speaking today at the GameStop Expo, Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer said the developer had a positive experience with The Last of Us' single-player story expansion, Left Behind, and wanted to try again.
"It worked really well for us for The Last of Us," Meyer explained. "We thought we could put together a really great piece of content as well [for Uncharted 4]."
Meyer added that Naughty Dog has been thinking for a long time about making single-player DLC for Uncharted, but never quite found the right way to make it work for the action-adventure series. Until now.
"I think we rose to the challenge for The Last of Us, so we decided we're going to take another shot at it [for Uncharted 4]," he said.
Naughty Dog is a relative newcomer to single-player DLC. In fact, Left Behind was the developer's first-ever single-player expansion. Things went well, as it was praised by critics across the board, and even earned the Game of the Month award from GameSpot for February 2014.
Uncharted 4's single-player DLC will be released through the Uncharted Triple Pack. This also includes two multiplayer packs that will unlock "new, rare, and legendary multiplayer items."
After a delay, Uncharted 4 is now slated to launch in March 2016 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
