  • Metal Gear Solid 5 Server Meltdown Enters Fourth Day [Update 2]

Konami is facing a fourth day of server connectivity woes with its latest triple-A release, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Since the game was released on Tuesday, Konami has continually communicated on social media with fans who have struggled to access MGS5's multiplayer FOB mode. On Thursday, Konami took the game's servers offline in order to perform technical maintenance. It has also established an alert page on its official website, giving players the most up-to-date information on the status of its servers.
[UPDATE 1: Online services have been restored on Xbox One.]
[UPDATE 2: Online services have been restored to PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Currently the only system not allowing access is PlayStation 4.]
While The Phantom Pain is predominantly a single-player game, and one that has been eulogised by critics, online problems have spread into some portions of the campaign mode too.
Specifically, The Phantom Pain allows players to transfer save data from its prequel, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. If players do so, they will be given various perks, such as valuable new recruits to their Mother Base. However, due to The Phantom Pain's servers timing out so frequently, many players have been unable to transfer over their save data.
Other players report that, if they manage to connect online, some functions of the single-player mode--such as menu navigation--noticeably slows down.
Konami has "deeply apologised" for the downtime on several occasions.
