  • Video Game Speedrunning Event Raises $1.29 Million for Charity, Re-Watch the Incredib

This year's Summer Games Done Quick, the annual video game speedrunning event, has come to a close. Organizers announced today that the event was a huge hit, raising $1.29 million for charity, besting last year's 1.2 million and setting a new SGDQ record.
Like last year, the money goes to the Doctors Without Borders charity.
This year's SGDQ wrapped up with a Super Mario 64 speed run. In all, the marathon event spanned 160 hours for all games. You can see replays of the speedruns here on YouTube.
Another SGDQ will take place next summer (dates have not yet been announced), but you don't have to wait that long for the next event. The Awesome Games Done Quick 2016 event begins on January 8, 2017. You can learn more at the Games Done Quick website.
Speedrunning is the process of playing through a game as quickly as possible. They are particularly fun and sometimes bewildering to watch because they require expert skill, lots of planning, and often the use of tricks.
