Once upon a time, EA released all of its sports games on PC. Nowadays, you'll only find the FIFA series on the platform, but in an interview with Game Informer, EA Canada vice president Matt Bilbey and EA Tiburon vice president Cam Weber talked about what it would take to bring games like Madden and NHL back to PC.
"PC is literally based on demand," Bilbey said. "There's still the high demand for FIFA on the PC globally because of the global appetite for the game. I think that's less so with Madden NFL 17, but I think if that changes and an opportunity presents itself, I think we would definitely leverage the opportunity."
Weber added that Madden on PC "used to be a good business," but as it declined, EA pulled out of developing each year's football game for the platform. Now that the company's been out of it for so long, Weber believes it might be difficult to get back in.
"We're open to it; it's just a matter of when's the right time and when does the opportunity make sense," Weber explained.
Bilbey also mentioned that with Frostbite being "a very core PC engine," it has "the ability to move across consoles" and make the transition back to PC "a lot easier going forward."
EA's slate of sports games for this year include Madden NFL 17, NHL 17, and FIFA 17. Madden releases this August, while NHL and FIFA launch in September. All three games will be available on PS4 and Xbox One, but only FIFA 17 will be playable on PC.
