  • Wonder Woman Movie Comic-Con Trailer Breakdown

    Full Breakdown

Warner Bros. and DC took to the stage in Hall H to give us a new trailer for the upcoming Wonder Woman film. As you'd expect, it was brimming with all sorts of details. Join us as we give you the full breakdown.
Did you see anything that we didn't notice in the new trailer? Let us know in the comments below. For all the latest news and trailers from the panel, be sure to check our Warner Bros. and DC Comic-Con News roundup.

    No Boys Allowed

"You're a man," Wonder Woman says. While this statement confuses the naive Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), it alludes to the one major rule of Wonder Woman's secret Amazon island home of Themyscira: men are forbidden.

    Steve Trevor

Steve Trevor is a classic character from the comics, serving as a crucial part to Wonder Woman's comic book origin story. He was an American World War II intelligence officer who washed up on the shores of Themyscira after he crashed his plane. In the trailer, he can be seen wearing a World War I-era pilot's outfit, which is indicative of the film's new setting and time period for Wonder Woman's origin story.

    Throne of Themyscira

Above is a shot of what could be the throne of Queen Hippolyta--the mother of Wonder Woman.

    Queen Hippolyta

Queen Hippolyta (played by Connie Nielsen) is seen telling her daughter that she's her "greatest love." Could this be a brief moment from the scene where she's letting Wonder Woman leave Themyscira? It could potentially explain the somber tone of her dialogue.

    Blending In

As we expected, Wonder Woman leaves Themyscira with Trevor. She can be seen dressed in civilian clothing walking alongside him. But what inspired Wonder Woman to leave her home? We're thinking it might have to do with the reason why Trevor ended up on Themyscira in the first place.

    Never Leave Home Without It

While Wonder Woman walks across the dance floor of a fancy party in a blue dress, she’s seen about to grab from her back the Sword of Athena--her primary weapon of choice in battle. A high-ranking officer is seen staring at her in the shot that precedes it; could Wonder Woman be drawing her sword to assassinate him?

    Creepy Jaw

A mysterious woman with a prosthetic jaw also makes an appearance at the party. While it's unclear what her identity is, we do at least know that this is the character that the famous Spanish actress Elena Anaya is set to play.

    Night Ride

Wonder Woman can be seen riding on horseback after the party attended. You can tell since she discards the blue dress she was wearing in the shots that follow. Did something occur at the party that forced her leave?

    Origin Story

It appears that the film's adaptation of Wonder Woman's origin story closely aligns itself with the new versions told in more recent comics. According to Wonder Woman's conversation with Trevor, she was brought to life by Zeus and raised by her mother Hippolyta. This more resembles her origin story depicting Zeus as her father/creator, rather than the classic Golden Age origin story where she came to life after being sculpted from clay by her mother.

    Unexpected Assailant

While Wonder Woman and Trevor are at a bar/restaurant, they're approached by an unexpected assailant attempting to fire a gun at them. But before any damage could be done, Wonder Woman jumps in for the rescue and overpowers the assailant. Who is this man and why did he want to kill Trevor and Wonder Woman?

    The Invaders

Several shots reveal that soldiers eventually invade Themyscira, which results in a conflict between them and the Amazons. But this leaves us asking two questions: how did they discover the island, and who could have revealed its location?

    General Antiope

General Antiope (Robin Wright) can be seen on horseback leading the Amazon charge against the invaders. Subsequent shots show her quickly and skillfully dispatching a couple soldiers attempting to kill her. Antiope is the sister of Queen Hippolyta and aunt of Wonder Woman.

    New Shield

Wonder Woman seems to be wielding a different shield from the one she used in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This new shield is a darker color and has a sun-like insignia in the center of it.

    All-Out War

Wonder Woman is fighting against a multitude of soldiers across numerous shots in the trailer. However, this all begs the question: what sparked Wonder Woman to become involved in this conflict in the first place? It's a well-known fact in the comics that Amazons refuse to engage in the wars of men. We're thinking she might be fighting to keep soldiers from reaching Themyscira.

    Lasso Warfare

Wonder Woman's iconic Lasso of Truth makes an appearance. We only saw a brief glimpse of it during the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it's refreshing to see it in action again here. Hopefully, this film will finally answer the question of whether or not this version of the weapon forces people to tell the truth.

    Assaulting German Planes

Trevor can be seen walking through an airfield filled with German planes. He eventually engages in a conflict against the soldiers there, and hijacks one of their planes to fight them off. But why is Trevor attacking German soldiers? Are they the main antagonists in the film’s central conflict, or are they simply only one part of the forces that threaten Wonder Woman?

    ...They Call That Slavery

    'Nuff said.
