Titanfall 2 is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, but you'll only be able to play with people on the same system. There is no cross-play support. However, game director Steve Fukuda said in a new interview that developer Respawn has not completely closed the door on supporting this.
Asked specifically about cross-play between Xbox One-PC and PS4-PC, Fukuda told Shacknews, "We aren't planning on doing that at launch. For now, the answer is no, but we aren't closed to the possibility."
This isn't the first time discussion around Titanfall2 cross-play has come up. In June, lead programmer Jon Shiring told GameSpot sister site CNET that the lack of cross-play support is not totally about the issues that might arise when gamepad users go up against people using mouse and keyboard. He said at the time that features like voice chat and party systems aren't quite there yet, technically, across platforms.
For his part, producer Drew McCoy said cross-play for Titanfall 2 could work if the game's matchmaking systems put people together based on skill and irrespective of control setups. "It's a problem that, in theory, you can solve that way," he said.
Titanfall 2 launches on October 28, but you don't have to wait that long to play it. A second multiplayer beta is scheduled for this weekend, beginning on August 26. The first beta ran last weekend and you can read this post to find out what Respawn learned from it and what the aim is for the second test.
