A new update for Destiny is coming next week on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The update, 2.4.0, will arrive on September 8 alongside server maintenance. As part of this, Destiny's servers will be offline for around eight hours, running from 8 AM PT to 4 PM PT that day.
As explained in a Bungie news post, the Destiny Companion App won't work normally during the downtime, as "functionality will be limited." The full patch notes for 2.4.0 have not yet been posted.
Bungie also explained that Destiny's Clan features will be taken offline with the release of update 2.4.0. This is being done in preparation for the new in-game Clan Roster system on the way.
"Clan tags will not appear on player nameplates until functionality is restored," the developer said. "Bungie.net Clan enrollment and moderation functionality will not be impacted."
Another thing to note about Destiny 2.4.0 is that it changes the way players can acquire Sterling Treasure. Beginning on September 8, you can only acquire one Sterling Treasure every week through the Level 41 Prison of Elders mode. When the Rise of Iron expansion comes out on September 20, the in-game Eververse Trading Company store will stop selling Sterling Treasure for Silver, Destiny's microtransaction system. Going forward, Sterling Treasure will be replaced by Radiant Treasures, Bungie said. These contain Silver Dust and new ornaments. You'll know more about Radiant Treasures when Rise of Iron launches, the developer explained.
To help prepare players for the upcoming update, Bungie rounded up some things you should be aware of; these are listed below, as written by Bungie.
Finally, Bungie said it's aware of a Destiny issue that is blocking players on local networks from creating a fireteam. "We have identified the issue, and are investigating a potential resolution," Bungie said.

- Please ensure that you have the proper amount of space available to accept Update 2.4.0.
- Interrupting downloads may force all previous content to be re-downloaded on some consoles.
- Some consoles will attempt to verify all previously downloaded content before downloading Update 2.4.0. If any issues are found, or the verification process is interrupted, all previous content will be deleted and downloaded once more.
