  • Acclaimed Adventure Game Firewatch Being Made Into a Movie and More

Yet another video game is headed to the big-screen. Developer Campo Santo has reached a deal with Hollywood production company Good Universe to make a Firewatch movie and more.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two companies are making "projects that can bridge both the video game and feature film worlds." The first effort is a movie version of Firewatch, which came out in February on PC and PlayStation 4, before landing on Xbox One earlier this month. It was Campo Santo's first title and reviews for the first-person adventure game were positive across the board.
The game, which sees players adventuring through 1989 Wyoming as part of a mysterious story, features the voices of Cissy Jones (The Walking Dead) and Rich Sommer (Mad Men). Whether or not any of the actors from the game will be involved in the movie remains to be seen.
As of yet, there is no director or actors attached to the project, nor was there any mention of a release date. It sounds like it is very much early days for the Firewatch movie.
"When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate, and produce incredible stories," Campo Santo founder Sean Vanaman told THR. "It's rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can't wait to see what we make together."
Good Universe also produced the new horror movie Don't Breathe and Last Vegas.
GameSpot's Firewatch review scored the game a 7/10.
"Its world is captivating, its design is clever, and its characters are among the most well-written in gaming," reviewer Scott Butterworth said. "Though it might sound counterintuitive, the plot is in many ways secondary to the relationship you build between Henry and Delilah, and that portion of the game is truly inspired. I've already returned to Firewatch for a calming walk in the woods; I imagine I'll go back again soon to visit with Henry and Delilah."
The next high-profile video game movie is Assassin's Creed, which comes out in December. Earlier today, director Justin Kurzel shared some new details about it.
