Blade Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who helmed the intense thriller Sicario last year. It's being written by original Blade Runner writer Hampton Fancher and newcomer Michael Green (Green Lantern).
Ridley Scott directed the 1982 original, which was set in 2019. It was previously thought that he might not be involved with the sequel, but apparently that's not the case. The image above, shared by Deadline, shows Scott alongside Villeneuve, Ford, and Gosling. It remains to be seen what his level of involvement is.
The original Blade Runner was based on a Philip K. Dick novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Alcon Entertainment, which owns the Blade Runner rights, is producing the new movie.
Blade Runner 2049 was originally slated for January 2018 before getting moved up and is now expected to hit theaters on October 6, 2017. You can check out concept art for the upcoming movie here.
