Warcraft director Duncan Jones has talked about his desire to make Warcraft 2, but don't expect that to happen anytime soon. Netflix announced today that Jones' sci-fi movie Mute has started filming and is scheduled to debut on the streaming service in 2017.
It's been a long time coming for Mute, as Jones has been working on it in some capacity for 12 years already. Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard will star in the film. According to Collider, the story focuses on Leo (Skarsgard), who is a mute man searching for a "missing person" in the year 2052 in Berlin. While he's searching for this missing person, he's also dueling with "two rogue villains," who are played by Rudd and Justin Theroux.
In an interview with Empire, Jones described Mute as being a "thriller with a very weird tone." He added: "It goes very dark, then it also goes very darkly funny. It's science-fiction urban, so it certainly owes some of its influence to Blade Runner."
Jones has also said he would like to return to the Warcraft franchise, as he has ideas for a trilogy. Whether or not he gets to make a second film will depend on how well the first one does. It wrapped up its box office run with more than $430 million worldwide, the bulk of which came from international markets. The film was released on Blu-ray/DVD, as well as digital channels, in September.
Although Warcraft, which had a reported budget of $160 million before marketing, is projected to ultimately be a money-loser, a sequel could still happen.

Interestingly, Jones has said that Mute is "related to Moon," his 2009 sci-fi movie starring Sam Rockwell and the voice of Kevin Spacey.— Netflix US (@netflix) October 12, 2016
