  • The Most Anticipated Movies to Watch in 2017

Over the past couple weeks, we rank the top video games, comics, TV shows, and movies from 2016. Now that the new year is upon us, it's time to stop looking to the past. Here's the 20 movies we're super-excited to see coming up in 2017.

    Star Wars Episode VIII

    (December 15, 2017)
A new Star Wars movie every year? Yes, please. The Force Awakens and Rogue One showed fans it was okay to still get excited over movies taking place in a galaxy far, far away.
The Force Awakens introduced us to new characters and brought back some favorites. With a pretty big cliffhanger, we'll be checking this out on the opening day, for sure.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

    (May 5, 2017)
Quick! Who's your favorite Guardian of the Galaxy? It doesn't really matter. They're all back. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and even Baby Groot. They'll be joined by Yondu, some new characters, and, most likely, a brand new soundtrack of catchy songs. The first movie was a pleasant surprise and caught many off guard. Based on the two trailers released so far, it looks like the sequel will include more greatness.

    Spider-Man: Homecoming

    (July 7, 2017)
One of our favorite moments in Captain America: Civil War was the introduction of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now that Sony and Marvel Studios have come to a friendly agreement to share the movie rights, we get to see Spidey interact with other Marvel characters. Tom Holland is on his way to becoming our favorite web-slinger.

    Wonder Woman

    (June 2, 2017)
Remember Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice? It wasn't a favorite among many. What it did do was give us a kick-ass Wonder Woman.
Set in the past, we'll get to see Wonder Woman's origin on the big screen as she dives into the war to end all wars. Spoiler: the war doesn't actually end all of them.

War for the Planet of the Apes

    (July 14, 2017)
The last two Apes movies were pretty top notch. Fox recently had a movie showcase and we got to see several scenes from the movie. You can read what we found out here.
The story is progressing and we're definitely not simply getting more of the same. By making this a war movie with some mystery and humor, we can't wait to see how it plays out.

    Logan

    (March 3, 2017)
Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine in a lot of X-Men movies. As he prepares to say goodbye to the role, the story is jumping forward, giving us an older, beardier Logan. With elements of the Old Man Logan comic story arc, we're getting a bleak look at the future for mutants.
Logan is another movie we got to see at the Fox Showcase. 43 minutes of footage was seen. All we'll say right now is: It's going to be an amazing film.

    Fast & Furious 8

    (April 14, 2017)
What is this next installment about? Let's be realistic, it doesn't matter. If you were a fan of the previous seven, there's no question of whether or not. The movies have been huge. We're totally okay with more and more getting released.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

    (July 21, 2017)
This is another movie we didn't know much about until the trailer dropped. Seeing it, we were pretty much blown away. Luc Besson is a brilliant filmmaker and the visuals here are spectacular. Based on a French science fiction comic, we're excited to take another trip to the stars with Besson.

    Thor: Ragnarok

    (November 3, 2017)
In 2016, we saw pretty much all the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes in one movie. All the Avengers were there except Thor and Hulk. That's okay because the two unlikely buddies are teaming up to possibly fight off the end of Asgard. It seems a certain other doctor in the Marvel Universe will joining them. With the mention of Gladiator Hulk armor from the Planet Hulk story arc, we can't wait to find out more.

    John Wick: Chapter 2

    (February 10, 2017)
Keanu Reeves is back with a new dog and bunch of new guns. What's the story about this time? We're not really sure. Last time, Wick came out of retirement to go after the people that hurt his dog. The trailer for Chapter 2 includes the tagline "The only way out is back in," which tells us the hitman's return hasn't been as temporary as he may have liked. And please, please, please, don't let anything happen to the dog this time.

    Untitled Cloverfield Anthology Movie

    (October 27, 2017)
Formerly titled God Particle, the movie has been pushed back and the name is now unknown. Despite this, we're still every bit excited to find out about this movie and see it in theaters.

    Justice League

    (November 17, 2017)
We can't help but get excited over the idea of seeing DC's biggest heroes all together on the big screen. We can assume they won't all be fighting each other like in Batman v. Superman. Maybe they'll just fight each other at first? With the talk of the tone of these movies changing, it could be a good time to be a DC Comics fan.

    Blade Runner 2049

    (October 6, 2017)
When we first heard about another Blade Runner movie, we first thought it was going to be a reboot of some sort. Many beloved movies tend to go that route and we started getting a little nervous. After the first trailer was released, we had a sense of relief. The movie is still a ways off, and we'll have our fingers crossed this will live up to our expectations.

    The Dark Tower

    (July 28, 2017)
Stephen King's Dark Tower series is a great read. Unlike his other novels, he created an incredible world and cast of characters. The live-action adaptation has seen its share of problems but is back on track with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey starring.

    Alien: Covenant

    (May 19, 2017)
Fox unveiled footage for their next Alien movie at their 2017 movie showcase and recently released the first trailer. ***note: a link will be added for the write up embargoed for X-Mas day*** Following the events of Prometheus, we'll find out what happens next when a group of colonists make the mistake of touching down on the wrong planet. You can expect plenty of Alien suspense and gore with neo-morphs bursting through the infected.

    Get Out

    (February 24, 2017)
Who doesn't love a good horror movie? With comedian Jordan Peele stepping into the horror genre, we weren't sure what to expect. The trailer appeared to be taking on themes of racism but quickly turned into a freaky spectacle that might make you need to turn on the lights if you're in the dark. Just watch the trailer.

    Dunkirk

    (July 21, 2017)
This is pretty much a no-brainer. Dunkirk is written and directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, and Harry Stiles. It almost doesn't matter what the movie is about. The first trailer shows us the WWI film is going to be pretty epic.

    Kong: Skull Island

    (March 10, 2017)
King Kong is back and is pretty massive. Kong is a draw to theaters on his own. This movie is crammed with actors such as Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel Jackson, John Goodman, and more. The movie is said to explore Kong's origin and there are rumors this is setting up a King Kong vs Godzilla movie. We'll be there with a big tub of popcorn.

    Ghost in the Shell

    (March 31, 2017)
Despite some controversy over the casting of the movie, we have to admit it has our full attention. If you've seen the anime, you should be curious about how this live-action reboot will turn out. The trailers contain plenty of cool visuals and Scarlett Johansson kicking some butt. It sounds like a good combination for us.

    Baywatch

    (May 26, 2017)
You're probably wondering how Baywatch made our list. It just barely did. After seeing the first trailer with Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, and Alexandra Daddario, it becomes pretty clear why it belongs. The movie looks funny and Johnson is such a likable actor. We could all use a good laugh, once in a while.
