  • Vine Shuts Down January 17, but Six-Second Videos Aren't Dead (Yet)

Vine announced on Twitter today that the current Vine app will shut down on January 17 and convert to an altered version called Vine Camera.
With Vine Camera, you will still be able to create looping six-second videos and upload them to Twitter. There will also be a "Follow On Twitter" feature to help creators retain their followers once Vine is officially shut down.
Update - the Vine app will become the Vine Camera on Jan 17. Please download your Vines before then! More here: https://t.co/zrE1oDTx48

However, Vine Camera has none of the other features included in the current Vine app, including viewing other Vines through the app. You will also not be able to download your old Vines once the app has been discontinued, but an archive of old Vines will remain viewable on Vine's website.
Vine had previously announced Vine Camera (via Engadget), but today's confirmation of the exact date was not particularly well-received on Twitter, sparking quite a few crying-themed reaction images.
