  • New Psychonauts 2 Gameplay Footage Shows Off Platforming And More

In addition to the news that Starbreeze will publish Psychonauts 2, more footage of the adventure game has come online today. Project lead Zak McClendon and Double Fine boss Tim Schafer appear in the new video to show off brand-new gameplay footage. There is also discussion of some story elements, so if you're hoping to go into the game with fresh eyes, it might be best to avoid this.
McClendon talks about some of the improvements Double Fine has made. This includes making main character Raz's movement feel more smooth. The game's tightropes are also larger and have more of a "licorice whip" feel to them, McClendon says. What you're seeing in the video is a test environment, not a final level.

As part of Double Fine's deal with Starbreeze, the Payday publisher will handle marketing and distribution for Psychonauts 2. The game is scheduled to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
Double Fine invested its own money into Psychonauts 2, while a crowdfunding campaign for it brought in $4 million.
The original Psychonauts came out in 2005 to much acclaim. It was re-released on PS4 last year, while a VR adaptation called Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is due to launch on PS4 later in February.
