  • Humble Launches Huge New Bundle, With All Proceeds Going To Charity

Humble has launched its latest bundle, and this one is particularly notable for a couple of reasons.
The lineup of games in the Humble Freedom Bundle is quite staggering. Stardew Valley, The Witness, Day of the Tentacle Remastered, Octodad, Super Meat Boy, Nuclear Throne, Mini Metro, The Stanley Parable, and Invisible, Inc. are among the more than two dozen Steam games included. A number of of books are in there as well, with the total MSRP listed at over $600. More "may" still be added, but whatever the case, you'll receive everything by buying this bundle--it isn't broken down into different tiers based on purchase price.
A sampling of the included gamesUnlike usual, however, you'll need to pay at least $30 for this bundle. That's because none of the proceeds are going to the developers or Humble itself; everything is being directed to charity. You're free to split your money between the American Civil Liberties Union, Doctors Without Borders, and International Rescue Committee. Humble itself is matching contributions up to to $300,000.
A number of other developers recently did something similar, donating proceeds from their games to the ACLU in the wake of the Trump administration's US immigration ban. The controversial executive order (which has since been halted by the courts) isn't explicitly mentioned in Humble's accompanying announcement, but it seems like a clear response to it.
"We humbly remember that the United States is a nation of immigrants, and we proudly stand with developers, authors, and charities that champion liberty and justice for all," the announcement reads.
"We chose these three organizations because of the inspiring work they do in providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced people as well as in defense of justice, human rights, and civil rights," it adds.
In less than an hour, the bundle has already raised more than $125,000. It will be available for one week.
As noted above, more titles could still be added. Presumably the language that's used--"more content may be coming soon"--is because additional games have not yet been lined up, as is sometimes the case. Instead, Humble is seemingly leaving the door open for other developers to submit their games to the cause.
While companies are often shy about reacting publicly to political news, that hasn't been the case with this travel ban. A number of developers have expressed concern, with Valve recently saying it's already affected the company.
