  • Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Is First Non-Disney Movie Of 2018 To Make $1 Billion

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has cleared a dino-sized box office milestone. The action movie has now made more than $1 billion globally. It's pulled in $304.8 million in the US and Canada and a further $700.7 million internationally to push its global haul to $1.005 billion, according to Deadline. Notably, the movie is not out yet in Japan, so the figure stands to grow further still.
It's the third movie of 2018 to reach $1 billion. The other two are Avengers: Infinity War ($2.038 billion) and Black Panther ($1.346 billion), so Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the first non-Disney movie of 2018 to reach $1 billion.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was directed by J.A. Bayona and stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard who return from 2015's smash hit Jurassic World. That movie, which was directed by Colin Trevorrow, made more than $1.6 billion worldwide, so the sequel still has some work to do to catch it.
A third Jurassic World movie is due in 2021, and it brings back Trevorrow to direct. The third one will go in a different direction to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. "If I could contextualize each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was," he said.
Jurassic Park was released in 1993, with sequels The Lost World: Jurassic World and Jurassic Park III coming out in 1997 and 2001, respectively. They are all based on the work of author Michael Crichton.
