  • More information has come to light regarding Twitch's 2020 ban of streamer Guy "Dr Disrespect" Beahm.
Beahm began making headlines again last week, when Twitch's former account director of strategic partnerships Cody Conners stated an unnamed person had been banned from the streaming platform after they were caught sending sexually explicit messages to a minor. Subsequent reports confirmed the person Conners was referring to was indeed Beahm, something many had already suspected.
Now, a former Twitch employee - who has chosen to remain anonymous - has told Rolling Stone that the minor had informed Beahm that they were underage, and Beahm continued to send "sexually graphic" messages to them regardless.

    • Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, the next project from the creative team behind the original two Life is Strange games, has been delayed into 2025.

Why? Well, the team behind it are keen to avoid the launch window of Square Enix's own new Life is Strange game Double Exposure, the latest to be made by the franchise's more recent development team Deck Nine Games.

In a press release today, Lost Records developer Don't Nod said its game would now arrive "early 2025".

      • The developer of Concord, Sony's upcoming PlayStation 5 and PC hero shooter, has discussed how it will handle the game's monetisation - and why the game requires a PSN account log-in on PC.

Speaking to Eurogamer's Chris Tapsell earlier this month, Concord developer Firewalk explained the game's relatively cheap £35/$40 price point, and said it was a fair proposition for the amount of content the title contained.

"When you buy the game, you get... the 16 characters, 12 maps, six modes," Firewalk's director of IP Kim Kreines said. "Every season, all that seasonal content, that's all free.

        • Hello! Welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing over the past few days. This week, we drop into a new fantasy MMO that's something of a social experiment; we go back to an old favourite via something of a Director's Cut; and getting the obscure categories first.
          What have you been playing?
If you fancy catching up on some of the older editions of What We've Been Playing, here's our archive.

          • Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has spoken out to condemn "the malicious and personal online attacks" directed at its developers, in the wake of the online fallout from Assassin's Creed Shadows' reveal.

Shadows is Ubisoft's upcoming feudal Japan-set entry in its long-running historical stabathon series. Earlier this month, Ubisoft revealed its dual protagonists to be Black samurai Yasuke, a notable figure from the period, and a fictional shinobi named Naoe, who happens to be a woman. The internet reacted as normally as you'd expect - and X owner Elon Musk also got involved.

Without naming Shadows specifically, Guillemot said he was concerned by the recent spate of "personal online attacks" directed at Ubisoft staff, and called on the video games industry in general to speak out against them.

            • Ubisoft is cooking up multiple Assassin's Creed game remakes, according to company CEO Yves Guillemot. And while he hasn't revealed which ones yet, the news follows reports last year that Ubisoft's much-loved Assassin's Creed Black Flag is getting the remake treatment.

Guillemot made the comments in an interview on Ubisoft website, discussing the company's upcoming portfolio. And while it offered little in the way of surprises - Yves once again talked about generative AI NPCs, insisting they could be "more intelligent, more interactive" (and not just dead-eyed creepy) - he did manage to share a smattering of fresh information.

Which brings us to those remakes. In answer to a question about Ubisoft's future plans for the series, Yves revealed, "Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernise them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

              • This week on the Eurogamer Newscast, we discuss the cancelled Xbox project Keystone: Microsoft's plans to launch a relatively cheap streaming console.

Keystone popped up yesterday in an old patent which detailed the prospective hardware in fresh detail, though we have of course seen it in the wild before - on Xbox boss Phil Spencer's shelf. Spencer has addressed Keystone's cancellation, and blamed it being shelved (literally) on Microsoft not being able to make it a cheap enough proposition.
But does the end of Keystone mean Microsoft is abandoning its cloud gaming plans entirely? No, of course not - and Xbox Cloud Gaming remains. And in the future, as internet speeds improve and streaming games becomes more common, could we see Keystone Version 2? Joining me this week are Eurogamer's Ed Nightingale and Victoria Kennedy to discuss.

                • Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree has reached 5m sales worldwide, in just three days of release.

Earlier this month, Elden Ring had shipped 25m units, meaning 20 percent of all players have already jumped back in for the DLC in its opening weekend.

"To the many who tread the path left by Kindly Miquella, we extend our heartfelt gratitude," reads a social post to celebrate.

                  • Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, the 2002 action-adventure game, is getting a remake courtesy of Aspyr.

The developer describes this as "a new title that brings the original Star Wars: Bounty Hunter to modern platforms with visual enhancements, improved environmental textures, new dynamic lighting effects, and a new flashlight tool."

It's set for release on 1st August across Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC (Steam). It'll be priced at $19.99 (£TBA).

                      • Astro's Playroom was one of the highlights of the PlayStation 5 launch, showcasing the DualShock's haptic feedback features, creative level design and a lot of good old-fashioned platforming fun - and now a proper full-fat release, called Astro Bot, is coming to PS5 in September. I went hands-on with some of the game's early levels for over an hour at a preview event in Frankfurt, and I'm genuinely impressed at how good it looks. In fact, Astro Bot is now the game I'm most looking forward to this year.
From the off, Astro Bot feels creative and fun, as you pilot a (DualSense-shaped) spacecraft around a galaxy map, with different systems and planets scattered around. Enter a system, of which only one was available in the preview, and each planet within represents a different level. Our preview included two main stages, a boss fight and a couple of smaller challenge levels that reminded me of those in Super Mario Sunshine. The transition from spaceship to on-the-ground gameplay is extremely smooth too, as your ship comes out of warp and flies through a short section under your control, before crash-landing as the level proper begins.
It looks like the game is using the same basic technology as Astro's Playroom, which is to say, slick and attractive with a distinctive Team Asobi style. The internal resolution of the game looks to be around 1872p - somewhere north of 80 percent of a full 4K, similar to Playroom - and looked good on the large 4K TV at the event.

                        • Capcom has announced its digital showcase - Capcom Next - will take place next week.
The broadcast will last for 25 minutes, and provide us with updates on Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (which is slated to release next month, on 19th July) and Resident Evil 7's move to iPhone/iPad and Mac.
The highlight of this show, however, will surely be the first look at Capcom's Dead Rising remaster, which was announced quite out of the blue last night.

                          • Nintendo court documents state that Donkey Kong once had a heap of other proposed names - including, unfortunately, "Kong Dong".

The revelation is included in 1983 court documents from a lawsuit between Universal and Nintendo (ironically now best buddies in the theme park business with actual Donkey Kong lands you can visit).

Said documents were originally scanned and placed online by gaming historian Norman Caruso in 2020, and were recently resurfaced again by Supper Mario Broth.

                            • Capcom has released another update for Dragon's Dogma 2 across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
While the majority of adjustments have been made across all devices, the team has also added some console specific updates with this patch. It has now added the option for those on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to change graphics settings to high or low, as well as the option to turn 120Hz output on or off.
Capcom said turning graphics settings down to low on consoles should improve Dragon's Dogma 2's frame rates, adding: "Further frame rate improvements are planned for future updates as well."

                              • It's funny to think about names. If circumstances were just a tiny bit different, Chuck Spadina could have been up on stage winning over E3 by telling it how breathtaking it is; we might have all have been round the arcade giggling at a Kong Dong cabinet; or perhaps sitting down over breakfast for a quick game of Mr Bugs Wordys Nugz.

That's the unlikely title developer Josh Wardle once considered for his daily word game phenomenon Wordle before settling on the one that's since become a household name. "Had I called the game Mr. Bugs," Wardle admitted to an audience at the recent Figma Config conference, "I like to think it would not have been successful."

Wardle was speaking during a presentation detailing Wordle's long development (thanks The Verge), revealing some of decisions he'd made along the way. That journey began in 2013 when, while trying to make something that might appeal to his partner, he mashed together words and Mastermind to make an Android game. Perhaps surprisingly, the core of Wordle was there right from the start, giving players six turns to guess a five-letter word.
