  • Ubisoft has offered PS5 players who were advised to restart Star Wars Outlaws in order to avoid progression-breaking bugs a peace offering in the form of... a trinket and some Ubisoft Connect currency.
As we reported yesterday, Ubisoft recently emailed some PlayStation 5 players asking them to update their copy of Outlaws to the latest version, following a chunky bug-busting patch. Players should then start a completely new save, Ubisoft said, as they would likely be unable to progress fully in their current save.
This was, understandably, not particularly well received by players who had begun playing on an earlier version of the game - including those who paid more to get early access, and had already invested several hours into it.

    • The design of Sony's under-wraps but much-discussed PlayStation 5 Pro model has reportedly been posted online.

Prolific leaker bilbil-kun today posted an illustration showing the console model - which looks very similar to that of the base PS5 - and provided a few more details on its reveal.

White in colour, with two USB-C ports and a power button on the console's front, the only major difference is the three ridged lines on the console's shell. This is an upgrade to the one ridged line on the PS5 Slim.

      • Shinji Mikami and Goichi Suda are two titans of Japanese game development with some incredible games between them, including the likes of Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and Killer 7.

Known for their somewhat punk attitude, the pair joined forces on Shadows of the Damned, released on PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011. Now it's getting re-released as Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.

That afforded me some time at Gamescom to speak to Mikami and Suda about their work together, the importance of remasters as part of game preservation, and if there are any games from their past they'd be keen to remake. They certainly had a lot of banter between them.

        • Resident Evil and Dino Crisis creator Shinji Mikami said he doesn't "feel like there's a whole lot of space" for a new Dino Crisis game thanks to the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter series.

Speaking to Eurogamer at Gamescom with regards to the forthcoming Shadows of the Damned remaster, Mikami discussed the topic of a new Dino Crisis game - it's the series most Capcom fans want to see make a return, according to a recent survey.

Mikami said he was surprised at the fan reaction to Dino Crisis, but it seems the popularity of Monster Hunter has put him off continuing the series.

          • I've always been wary of people who say about a game "It's better when you play it in co-op" because virtually every activity is improved by the presence of friends. Cleaning the sink is more fun when you've got one to three pals monkeying around in the kitchen with you, tossing you extra sponge-scourers and reviving you when you faint because of the thing you just pulled out of the plughole.
Space Marine 2, however, really is better in coop, and not just because your mate Dan keeps making jokes about 'Krak grenades' being the product of eating too many beans. Not only is its campaign elevated with the presence of player companions, Space Marine 2's real heart lies in what comes after the story has finished – its chaotic, class-based, Left 4 Dead style Operations.
None of which is to suggest Space Marine 2 is a bad time in single-player. Saber Interactive's campaign does a perfectly preposterous job in following up Relic's quintessential 7/10. The story once more revolves around the Ultramarine Titus, who has been demoted to a Lieutenant in the big blue brotherhood following accusations of heresy in the original. The introductory mission prefaces all this in a fun way that I won't spoil, but ultimately Titus winds up leading a new squad of marines in a large-scale operation to rid a trio of Imperial planets from a Tyranid infestation.

            • Acer announced a raft of new devices at its NextAtAcer event in Berlin today, including a bunch of AI laptops powered by Intel Lunar Lake, AMD Strix Point and Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors, but I want to focus on the gaming stuff. There's a protoype gaming laptop with built-in gamepad, the Predator Project DualPlay, an AMD-powered gaming handheld, the Nitro Blaze 7, and a 600Hz gaming monitor, the Nitro XV240 F6.
Let's start with the one that's the most fun. The Predator Project DualPlay looks like a fairly standard chonky gaming laptop, but you can press two buttons below the screen to pop out the trackpad, revealing a full-size controller within. This controller can be used as is, or split further with Switch-style nunchucks for each hand. It's not clear whether there's a backup option for controlling the computer with the gamepad physically removed - perhaps it connects via wireless, perhaps you just need to have a mouse plugged in - but it's a novel concept that would definitely draw attention at a LAN party.
Acer revealed a fair few gaming monitors at the event too, including one of the very first Nvidia G-Sync Pulsar monitors - a 27-inch Fast IPS model with a 1440p 360Hz spec called the Predator XB273U F5. However, I was more excited by the company's new 600Hz esports model. The Nitro XV240 F6 uses a 1080p TN panel, so image quality isn't the best, but players of competitive shooters with high-end PCs aren't likely to care if they get a small edge over rivals on 240Hz, 360Hz or 480Hz rivals. The difference between 480Hz and 600Hz is tiny in real terms - we're talking about a new image every 2.08ms versus 1.66ms - but it brings us one step closer to the 1000Hz dream, the threshold at which sample-and-hold displays lose a lot of their limitations.

              • UK high street chain GAME has acknowledged customers awaiting pre-orders are currently facing "issues" accessing their accounts online, as they wait for delayed deliveries to arrive.

GAME customers with items they had pre-ordered and already paid for told Eurogamer they had received no advance notice of any issue, and have been unable to check the status of their orders online. The issues follow Eurogamer's reporting that GAME was ending in-store pre-orders.

"The GAME website is currently undergoing upgrades, and as a result, we are aware that some customers are experiencing issues accessing their GAME accounts and order details," a spokesperson for parent company Frasers Group said.

                • Starfield's 30fps frame-rate target on consoles proved controversial at the game's launch, despite the game's impressive world complexity. That all changed in May of this year when the game was updated with support for 40fps, 60fps, and unlocked modes on Series X, though the performance level was understandably a little bit variable. Series S was left out in the cold, with players on Microsoft's pint-sized console still left with a 30fps visual option as their only choice. That changed with last week's major game update, finally giving the S the same visual options as the Series X, adding visuals and performance modes along with selectable frame-rate caps. So how close do these updated modes come to their Series X counterparts? Is this patch a win for Series S users, or do these new options prove visually unsatisfying?
Getting down to the basics, Starfield on Series S provides one key graphical choice to players: the option to select a performance or visuals mode along with various frame-rate targets: 30fps, 40fps (for 120Hz displays), 60fps and uncapped. There's also the option to enable or disable v-sync. The performance and visuals modes have some obvious visual differences. Shadow resolution takes a big hit in the performance mode, which is very obvious across the game. Shadow draw-in is also more aggressive for some distant objects. Starfield uses some quite effective shadow filtering though, so shadows in the performance mode generally just look softer, without obvious sawtooth edges.
Paradoxically, that can make the performance mode look more realistic at times, as shadows are generally more diffuse in the real world, as opposed to looking razor sharp. With soft shadow maps, there's sometimes a trade-off between shadow resolution and the appearance of natural penumbra, and that's exactly what we're seeing here. In general though the visuals mode does provide a more satisfying appearance, as the performance mode doesn't ground smaller objects very effectively. The other major cutback comes to foliage draw. Ground foliage draws in at closer range in the performance mode, and has much less density.

                  • If you, like me, have been wondering just how Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures were going to approach a live-action Minecraft movie, I have good news for you. We now have our first good look at the upcoming adaptation, known simply as A Minecraft Movie, thanks to a new trailer.
The trailer, which you can see below, introduces us to Jason Momoa's Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison and Jack Black's Steve. There are also some cuboid sheep and Piglins marching around the place, because Minecraft.
In addition to Momoa and Black, the upcoming film also stars Wednesday's Emma Myers, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Stifler's mum. I mean, Jennifer Coolidge, who has also starred in the likes of The White Lotus and the Legally Blonde films. You can check out the trailer below.

                    • By now, I should really should know better than to expect the obvious where No Man's Sky is concerned. And here we are again with a brand-new update, titled Aquarius, which this time adds - of all things - fishing to developer Hello Games' wonderful exploratory space sim.

Aquarius follows on July's behemoth Worlds Part 1 update, which introduced a significant planetary refresh for No Man's Sky's vast universe. That overhaul included much-improved water effects - replacing the tinted cellophane look of yesteryear with proper dynamic waves - and players now have another excuse to relax and admire the aquatic beauty around them.

With Aquarius installed, Travellers can take a well-earned breather from the usual interplanetary hubbub down by the water's edge, fishing rod in hand, waiting for something to bite. Hello Games is promising a "huge array of fish", ranging from the common minnow to more exotic alien species, each with their own habitats and catching conditions.

                      • More than 35 years after the first Legend of Zelda, one of video gaming's most recognisable names will finally front an adventure of her own. Fans have clamoured to play as Zelda for years, of course, and yet Nintendo has previously resisted, keeping Link as the silent avatar of players' adventures.
That all changes in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - the reveal of which this year was one of Nintendo's biggest surprises for some time. Why has it taken so long for Zelda to be the star? The answer, I think, lies in something I find even more remarkable than simply controlling the series' princess, and something which guarantees this isn't just another Zelda with an alternate silent hero - the game-changing Echo ability.
Early on, as Zelda attempts to escape the dungeons of Hyrule Castle, she dons a cloak previously worn by Link and is briefly mistaken for him. At any second, I was expecting her to produce the Master Sword from a hidden pocket and start swinging. But Echoes of Wisdom is not that kind of game - and is all the better for it.

                        • Cyberpunk 2077 fans have pledged more than $2m to ensure a new, official board game version of CD Projekt Red's role-playing game is made.

The crowdfunding campaign for Cyberpunk 2077 - The Board Game on GameFound obliterated its initial $100k goal in just 10 minutes and four seconds. As of writing, almost £2.1m has been pledged, and counting. 16 days of the campaign remain.

This tabletop version of Cyberpunk 2077 sees you taking on missions and follow branching, replayable stories as V, Panam, Jackie or Judy across Night City. It's been created by Game On Board, the company that previously made a couple of official The Witcher board games, with support from CD Projekt Red itself.

                            • Nintendo has revealed fresh details of its forthcoming RPG Mario & Luigi: Brothership, including its setting: Concordia.

                              • After PlayStation and Firewalk made the decision to pull Concord from sale two weeks after the hero-shooter made its debut, industry members have started to share their sympathies with the team involved.
Gears of War's Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski shared a short post on social media, reading: "Concord, I feel your pain."
Bleszinski previously set up Boss Key Productions, a now defunct studio, which released its own hero shooter, LawBreakers. Despite a big pre-release push by publisher Nexon, LawBreakers flopped, with its Steam concurrent player count peaking at 7482 in June 2017 when it launched via open beta.
