Smaller tablets are all the rage these days, but all those 7-inch slates don't exactly lend themselves to family time. Heck, even the current crop of larger size tablets are mostly geared towards single-user scenarios. Archos is hoping to change that perception with its new FamilyPad, a 13.3-inch Android tablet designed to "bring back game night" and put a "digital twist on family time."
"Perfectly sized for a family to use together the FamilyPad, featuring an impressive 34cm HD screen, will become the must have family companion this holiday season," Archos says (PDF). "Families can sit down and play digital board games, watch movies, share pictures, or connect to social networks together."
Taking a peek at the technical specifications, the FamilyPad features an ARM Cortex A8 processor clocked at 1GHz, 1GB of RAM, a 1280x800 display resolution, 8GB of built-in storage (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot), a microUSB port, HDMI output, 2MP front-facing and rear-facing cameras, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
It's large, but far from in charge compared to better equipped tablets on the market. The FamilyPad will be available in U.K. next month for £275 (around US$438). No word yet on when or if the FamilyPad will take a trip to the U.S. market.
