  • Digital Storm Redesigns 'Bolt' PC to Strike Quieter and Faster

The world's thinnest gaming desktop just received a few upgrades.

Digital Storm was as proud as a peacock when it unveiled its Bolt desktop back in October of this year, claiming it had designed the world's thinnest gaming PC. Now that it's been on the market for a couple of months, the boutique system builder has had a chance to evaluate customer feedback, and based on the responses it's received, the company decided to upgrade its Bolt line to run faster and quieter without jacking up the price.
Two of the top complaints had to do with system noise levels and the glossy paint job attracting fingerprints. Digital Storm says it fixed both of those issues. To cut back on noise, Digital Storm's engineers collaborated with Sparkle to create a custom quiet fan profile for the new server class 500W Gold Plus power supply, and then added a new side vent to the Bolt to improve airflow.
As for the issue of fingerprints, the Bolt now offers two new paint options for the same price. They includ metallic gunmetal and pearl white, both of which are matte finishes.
"When we design a system it has to stand up to our core principles -- performance, support, and value," said Rajeev Kuruppu, Digital Storm's Director of Product Development. "Our original design was outstanding, but after listening to customers and reading media reviews we knew we could raise Bolt's design to an even higher plateau. The result of the changes we made is a sleek and quite system design, capable of going toe-to-toe with any full-sized tower-style desktop."

Digital Storm also upgraded the hardware on its "Level 3" Bolt configuration. The company bumped the Intel Core i5 3570K processor to a Core i7 3770K and doubled the SSD storage from 60GB to 120GB. Pricing for the Level 3 still starts at $1,599. There are four "Levels" to choose from, starting at $999 for a Level 1 Bolt.
