Vudu Crashes Android Party with 100,000 Movies and TV Shows

Android users rejoice, Vudu is now available (for certain tablets).

At long last, Vudu is finally available for select Android tablets. The new app arrives at Google Play about a year after Vudu launched to iOS, and it brings with it access to more than 100,000 movies and TV shows to supported tablets running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or later. Vudu says it plans on expanding support to include "many more tablet models and smartphones" in the near future, though stopped short of offering up any specifics.
"The popularity of Vudu combined with Android, the world's most popular mobile operating system, provides customers with even more convenience and access to new releases, Hollywood favorites and shows," said Prasanna Ganesan, general manager, Vudu. "Since pioneering movie-on-demand, our mission at Vudu has been to give fans instant access to the greatest selection of movies and TV shows available, on as many devices as possible and with the highest streaming quality."
It may have taken a year for Vudu to spread its wings over to Android, but now that it's here, not only do Android users have the same access as iOS users, they also have a bit of bragging rights. That's because Android users are able to download personal movie collections within the Vudu app for offline viewing, a feature that's not yet available for iOS.
In related news, Vudu also announced support for high-quality 1080p HDX video streaming to Xbox 360 consoles. In addition, new users who link to or create a free UltraViolet account between now and March 30, 2013, are eligible to receive 10 free flicks.
