Futuremark today announced that the Android version of 3DMark is now available to download, giving Android device owners another benchmark at their disposal. Several prominent technology firms provided input into the benchmark's design, including Imagination Technologies, Intel, Broadcom, Nvidia, Qualcomm, and others. One of the goals was to make it so that scores could be compared across platforms, and apparently Futuremark delivered.
"You can use 3DMark to test the performance of devices running Android, iOS, Windows, and Windows RT, and understand how new devices compare with the alternatives," Futuremark explains.
Right now it's only available on Android and Windows, though Futuremark says versions for Windows RT and iOS are "coming soon."
3DMark includes two benchmarks, both based on OpenGL ES 2.0. The first is Ice Storm, which consists of two graphics tests designed to stress the GPU and a physics test to stress the CPU. Ice Storm Extreme raises the stakes by using a Full HD 1080p resolution with higher quality textures and post-processing effects.
You can download 3DMark for Android on Google Play.
