PowerWash Simulator's Shrek Special Pack, as it's officially known, marks the fifth bit of paid DLC for video gaming's premiere wash-'em-up, following on from collaborations with Spongebob SquarePants, Back to the Future, Warhammer 40,000, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - and that's alongside regular free seasonal content and more.

Developer FuturLab's Shrek Special Pack promises five new "fairytale" maps for de-filthing, all inspired by Dreamworks' currently four-strong animated movie series, with levels revealed so far including Shrek's Swamp and the Dragon's Lair.

          • A new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been released, giving us a proper look at Shadow the Hedgehog and a chance to hear his voice for the first time. You can check out the trailer below.

Shadow's voice actor, confirms Variety, is Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, John Wick), as heavily rumoured.

Back in April, it was rumoured Reeves would be voicing Shadow. And the end of the second Sonic film heavily hinted at Shadow's inclusion.

            • Join us to watch today's Indie World & Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, live at 3pm UK time. (That's 7am Pacific, or 10am Eastern.)

Stand down your expectations of seeing more Zelda or Metroid Prime - or Switch 2. Today's event will instead spotlight upcoming Nintendo Switch games from third-party publishers, as well as indie developers. The show is set to run for around 40 minutes.

Will Silksong be there? Probably not. But we're hopeful we may see more of The Plucky Squire, out in September. What else could we see? Other upcoming titles set for Switch include Sonic X Shadow Generations in October, plus the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection and Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed in September.

              • After numerous leaks, Pokémon Go developer Niantic has finally lifted the lid on the game's highly-anticipated next season, Max Out, which adds more Gen 8 creatures and the huge new Dynamax feature.

Gen 8 Starter Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon Sword and Shield will join Pokémon Go at the beginning of the next season. This includes Grass-type monkey Grookey, Fire-type rabbit Scorbunny, Water-type frog thing Sobble, plus Dragon-type Dreepy and the Stonehenge-esque Stonjourner (which, excitingly for UK players, will be a regional exclusive).

Already-released Gen 8 Pokémon Skwovet and Wooloo will become available in their Shiny versions, meanwhile.

                • Alien: Romulus and The Last of Us Part 2 have a bit of an unexpected connection.
Alien: Romulus - the latest film in the Alien franchise - recently released, and stars Isabela Merced in a leading role. While Merced has acted in many films and series, those on this site may recognise her name as that of Dina in the upcoming second season of The Last of Us. But, that's not where the connection ends.
Over the weekend, Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez revealed the film's character of Kay (played by Merced) was actually inspired in part by Dina from The Last of Us Part 2. This was before Merced was cast in either role. What are the chances - Dina see that coming, and all that. Please be aware of a small The Last of Us Part 2 spoiler below.

                  • A new report on Toys for Bob has claimed Crash Bandicoot 5 was cancelled in favour of live-service online games.
The report comes from gaming historian Liam Robertson, who revealed this Crash Bandicoot game would have been a single-player 3D platformer, which would serve as a direct sequel to Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.
While that is all much to be expected, Robertson's video also featured concept art and potential story ideas for the Crash sequel, including a Spyro team up. "Crash and Spyro were intended to be the two playable characters," Robertson said.

                    • Having been officially revealed in a very un-fanfare-y way this weekend, a Valve developer has given us all an extra peek at a prototype of the studio's hero-shooter Deadlock.
The video itself was spotted by social media account Gabe Follower, which regularly keeps us up to date with titbits of Valve-related news (clue is in the name, really).
As you can see in the embedded post below, the prototype footage for Deadlock features a very rudimentary urban area, complete with placeholder assets such as those of Half-Life 2's alien insectoid creatures, Antlions.

                      • Xbox is expanding its accessibility range with new accessories, including the Xbox Adaptive Joystick and 3D printable thumbstick toppers.

The Xbox Adaptive Joystick, due out next year, is a singular joystick with two triggers and four face buttons, essentially acting as half a controller that can be used with either hand, or other body parts.

The buttons are completely remappable using the same UI as the existing Xbox Adaptive Controller. Indeed, flexibility is key to all of Xbox's accessibility accessories: the joystick can be used directly with the console, or in conjunction with the Adaptive Controller or Xbox controller. It can also be mounted if unable to be held.

                        • Black Myth: Wukong has had a hand in breaking yet another new record.
Over the weekend, Steam surpassed 37 million concurrent users for the first time in its history. As you can see in the image below, on Sunday 25th August, Valve welcomed a whopping 37,240,223 of us onto its platform.
The main driving force behind this latest record? Yes, Black Myth: Wukong, which itself broke records earlier in the month by becoming the most popular single-player game by peak concurrent users in Steam history and establishing itself as the most-viewed game on Chinese live-streaming platforms on its first day of release.

                          • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle wasn't playable at Gamescom 2024 - but that didn't stop MachineGames' upcoming adventure leaving a huge impression on the preceedings nonetheless.
Of course, attendees could head over to Bethesda's heaving showfloor stand and watch a hefty slice of gameplay - the same presentation Eurogamer had an early chance to report back on last week. But the real talk in Gamescom's halls was on the bombshell reveal this Bethesda blockbuster was also coming to PlayStation - and only a few months after its Xbox debut.
When I sat down for a chat with the game's creative director Axel Torvenius and design director Jens Andersson, their delight at the confirmation was clear. How many more copies could Starfield have sold it also arrived on PS5? It's a question we may yet find out an answer to, in time, but it's not something MachineGames now needs to wait too long to find out for Indy. Also on the agenda - we dive into that controversial choice to make the game first-person, and discuss how MachineGames is making sure Indiana Jones endeds up standing apart from similiar adventure titles.

                            • Considering its huge success during its first week, it's no surprise that modders are already busy tinkering with Black Myth: Wukong.

Mods so far range from small tweaks to new character models, though perhaps the most inevitable of all was adding Dragon Ball Z's Goku as the main character.

Both Black Myth: Wukong and Dragon Ball Z are based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West, and both The Destined One and Goku are based on the character Sun Wukong from the novel.

                              • PlayStation multiplayer shooter Concord has suffered a terrible launch on Steam, where just 660 people played concurrently over the weekend at the game's peak.

The last 24 hours have seen this number falling further still - now, with a daily peak of just 267 players.

Concord is also available on PlayStation 5, of course, though it doesn't seem to have made a huge impact there, either. Looking through Sony's PlayStation Store by "Best Selling" games finds Concord around 30-something places down. (Black Myth: Wukong, predictably, is currently top.)
